Being in contact with other artists all around the world through social media I decided to present a few of them. Here is one whose artwork (and its titles!) I particularly admire:
Please introduce yourself:
Antoine Jossé, 39 years old, Normandie (France), making paintings and sculptures.
What is your definition of art?
Art is for me a prolongation of life; artists are the witnesses of their time which they translate through their sensibility and practice.
Why have you become an artist?
I don’t really know; it has very quickly become necessary for me… even vital!!!
Do I produce to leave a trace in the future?
Do I need to be loved through my production?
Am I simply afraid to die?
I don’t have all the answers yet.
What is your favourite artwork of your own and why?
I love the man on the swing (my avatar on myspace): he reunites in himself alone all my preoccupations (solitude, absurdity, nature, meaning of life…) and he marks the first stage of the work you know (and the end of 15 years of detailed plastic research)
How do you work?
I draw all my ideas in a sketch book; after some weeks I open my book again and chose the projects that still interest me and then go on to production.
Who is your favourite artist?
Alberto Giacometti
William Turner
What is your favourite material to work with and why?
My favourite material is plaster: it is simple to use and allows me to work on the texture.
Could you live without making art (and why/why not)?
No, that’s impossible. That is what gives meaning to my life.
Where can others find you on the web?
I don’t have a personal website but if you search for my name +sculptures or +peinture you will find several pages where my work appears (some of them are even very old!).

Merci beaucuop pour l’interview, Antoine!!! 🙂

Giacometti’s influence is strong- but I see that you are taking further into the sense of isolation and melancholy. You work is intense, and I enjoy it’s sense of solitude.
„Je ne joue plus“ is excellent. The composition and emotion I feel in it is very strong… very well done.
